The musicians of Ensemble Pampinea met one another during their studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Here they had the opportunity to explore the extensive repertoire of medieval music and to learn about the possibilities of a colourful arrangement through the use of various historical instruments. The trio plays recorder, fiddle, pipe and tabor, double recorder, as well as organetto. With the programme entitled ‘Fortuna, will you spare us?’, the ensemble presents the repertoire of Ars Nova and Ars Subtilior in a charming interaction with the audience, who decide the fates of the concert.
Fiona Kizzie Lee, Maruša Brezavšček and Vojtěch Jakl are prize winners in the early music scene. Their musical achievement is enhanced by the musicological research of Fiona Kizzie Lee, who is currently writing her doctoral thesis in musicology at the University of Zurich. In November 2022, Ensemble Pampinea won first prize in the LIFEM Young Ensemble Competition, this being their winners’ recital. The Ensemble is also one of the four finalist groups selected to play in the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci in June 2023. In August 2022, the ensemble was invited to perform its programme ‘Boccaccio's Decameron’ in Slovenia, at Muzej občine Šenčur and at Cerkev sv. Florijana, Ljubljana.
Fortuna, will you spare us?
In the face of Fortuna, anything is possible. Anything is also impossible, depending on her decisions. This concert allows you to play a role in deciding our fate. There is no way to predict where Fortuna will take us – just as in this concert, we will not be able to tell the order of the programme: alas, the dice is in your hands!
