Ensemble Pictor (musicians from the Junior Royal Academy of Music’s recorder department, directed by Barbara Law) join us for the second of this year’s LIFEM Performers’ Platforms.

This dynamic and flexible ensemble was formed in 2025 by Alma (BBCYM 2026 finalist), Joseph and Hassan (prize winners ORDA 2026). Here they are joined by their colleagues from the Junior Royal Academy of Music, Natasha and Celia, in a programme curated by Barbara Law.

Featuring recorders, violin and voice, their programme explores Japanese contemporary works alongside medieval ‘western’ music. Contrasting western and eastern sounds, the old and the new, Ensemble Pictor showcase the recorder using their own arrangements and compositions alongside classics of the Japanese contemporary recorder repertoire.

Duration – 45 minutes approx.
