With no prior woodworking experience, Alan Cantor travelled from Canada to England to take Tim Cranmore’s five-day recorder-making course. During this multimedia presentation, he shares the excitement, challenges, and frustrations of learning to build a recorder from scratch — with no transferable skills to draw on.
The story has a happy ending: Alan arrived home with an incredible reproduction of a Stanesby Jr. alto in 415 Hz, turned from Canadian maple. Throughout the session, he will perform on the instrument he built.
